India celebrates 74th Republic Day

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi was the chief guest at the R-Day parade, witnessing a spectacular show of India's military might at Kartavya Path.

NEW DELHI: President Droupadi Murmu led the nation in celebrating 74th Republic Day from Kartavya Path with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi as the chief guest at the parade.

He reached India and said it's a "great privilege to be a guest of honour and participate in India's glorious national day". 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi thanked President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi of the Arab Republic of Egypt for gracing this year’s Republic Day celebrations. The PM, in a tweet said, " I am grateful to President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi for gracing this year’s Republic Day celebrations with his august presence.@AlsisiOfficial"

The parade comprised of spectacular military and cultural pageantry on Kartavya Path every year that displays India's military might. Republic Day 2023 witnessed the debut march of women riders on Border Security Force's (BSF) Camel Contingent.

The Republic Day parade was a unique mix of India's military prowess and cultural diversity, depicting the country’s growing indigenous capabilities, Nari Shakti and emergence of a ‘New India’, according to the ministry of Defence. A total of 23 tableaux – 17 from states and Union territories and six from various ministries and departments – depicting India's vibrant cultural heritage, and economic and social progress were part of the parade on the Kartavya Path.

The Union Home Ministry announced medals for 901 police personnel drawn from the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and state forces. The tally includes 140 Police Medal for Gallantry.

Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud said that the electronic Supreme Court Reports (e-SCR) project will now start providing its judgements in various Indian scheduled languages from Republic Day. There are of 22 languages in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution. They include Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Kashmiri, Konkani, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Nepali, Oriya, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Sindhi, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu, Bodo, Santhali, Maithili and Dogri.
