UPSC

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), also known as the Sangha Lok Sevā Āyoga is a constitutional body formed under the Article 315-323 Part XIV Chapter II of the Constitution of India. It is mandated to conduct various examinations for recruiting officers for All India Services and the Central Civil Services (Group A and B).

Established on 1 October, 1926 as the Public Service Commission, UPSC was later reconstituted as the Federal Public Service Commission by the government through an Act in 1935. Following India's independence, it was rechristened as the Union Public Service Commission.

The commission is responsible for appointments to the services of the Union of India. It is also tasked to consult the Central government in matters relating to appointment, transfer, promotion, and disciplinary matters. The commission reports directly to the President of India.

The UPSC functions with full autonomy, and is headquartered at Dholpur House in New Delhi, and operates through its secretariat.
