Agrawal is a 1993-batch IAS officer of Chhattisgarh cadre.
NEW DELHI: Senior IAS officer, Amit Agrawal assumed office as the Secretary of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), following a major bureaucratic reshuffle approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet in November 2025.
He succeeds Neeraj Mittal, who has been appointed Secretary of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.
A 1993-batch IAS officer of the Chhattisgarh cadre, Agrawal is an alumnus of IIT Kanpur. Prior to this appointment, he served as Secretary, Department of Pharmaceuticals, and has held key positions including CEO of UIDAI and Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITY).
As Telecom Secretary, Agrawal will oversee strategic priorities such as 5G and 6G expansion, spectrum management, and the revival of public sector telecom units BSNL and MTNL. His tenure is expected to continue until June 2030.
