Arnab Maitra elevated as Executive Director, NTPC Bongaigaon Plant

NEW DELHI: Arnab Maitra, currently Head of Project and Business Unit Head of NTPC Bongaigaon, has been elevated to the position of Executive Director of the station. Since assuming charge of NTPC Bongaigaon in January 2025, he has played a key role in enhancing the plant’s operational performance, reliability, safety standards, and stakeholder engagement initiatives.

A veteran power sector professional with more than three decades of experience, Maitra joined NTPC as an Executive Trainee in 1989 after graduating in Mechanical Engineering from the erstwhile Regional Engineering College (REC), Durgapur. He also holds an M.Tech in Power Generation Technology from IIT Delhi.

During his distinguished career, Maitra has served at several of NTPC’s major power stations, including Farakka, Vindhyachal, Korba, and Darlipali, gaining extensive expertise in thermal power plant operations, maintenance, project execution, and business leadership.

Over the years, he has made significant contributions to improving plant performance, operational efficiency, and the adoption of best practices across NTPC’s generating stations. He has also undergone specialized training in power plant efficiency, safety management, preventive vigilance, coal coordination, operations and maintenance excellence, human resource management, disaster management, first aid and CPR, and leadership development.

Under his leadership, NTPC Bongaigaon, the company’s 750 MW (3x250 MW) power station in Assam, has achieved notable milestones in generation performance, reliability, ash utilization, safety, environmental management, and community development. The station has received several national accolades in occupational health and safety, human resources, sustainability, and corporate social responsibility. It has also strengthened its outreach through impactful CSR initiatives focused on healthcare, education, women’s empowerment, and livelihood enhancement.

As Executive Director, Maitra will continue to lead NTPC Bongaigaon’s efforts towards greater operational excellence, sustainability, innovation, and stakeholder value creation. His extensive experience, strategic vision, and people-centric leadership are expected to further strengthen the station’s contribution to NTPC’s mission of delivering reliable, affordable, and sustainable power to the nation.
