NEW DELHI: At least 31 people have been killed and 40 others wounded following a series of Israeli air raids across southern Lebanon, according to the country’s Ministry of Public Health. The strikes targeted multiple towns and villages, marking one of the bloodiest days in the region in recent weeks despite an active ceasefire agreement.

Media reported quoted health officials as saying that the most devastating strike occurred in the Burj El Shemali area near Tyre, leaving 14 dead and 16 injured. Additional casualties were reported across several locations, including five dead in Kouthariyeh El Siyad, four in Haboush, six in Maarakah, and two in Sel’aa.

As per media reports, the Israeli military did not comment on the specific strikes, it maintains that its operations specifically target Hezbollah infrastructure. Meanwhile, ongoing retaliatory attacks by Hezbollah into northern Israel continue to threaten the U.S.-brokered truce. Initially established on April 16 and recently extended for 45 days on May 15, the fragile peace agreement faces a growing risk of total collapse as cross-border violence intensifies.
