NEW DELHI: B. Sairam has been appointed as Chairman-cum-Managing Director of Coal India Limited (CIL). Prior to this, he was CMD, Northern Coalfields Limited a wholly owned subsidiary of CIL. Sairam brings a vast reservoir of knowledge and experience spanning over more than 3 decades of dedicated service in the coal sector.
A graduate mining engineer from NIT Raipur, Sairam has traversed various domains within the coal industry, including mine operations, project planning, logistics, and regulatory affairs. He pursued MBA in Energy Management from NTPC School of Business Delhi. Before appointment as CMD of NCL, he was serving as Director (Technical) in Ranchi based Central Coalfields Limited where he played pivotal roles in development of coal logistics, First Mile Connectivity projects, Forest & Environment Clearances, and projectising greenfield and brownfield mines.
Sairam has been instrumental in community development initiatives during his stint as Executive Director at CIL. In NCL, his leadership and technical acumen led to projectisation, structuring of project financing, and developing a compensation and R&R framework for shifting of urban township- considered as the largest mining rehabilitation & resettlement programme- for Jayant expansion project.
Through his strong command on earning community trust, these assignments were accomplished in one-year time frame. He also fast-tracked multiple regulatory clearances for an important mining project for uninterrupted production cycle. His multi-pronged know-how of the coal mining eco-system will greatly benefit CIL in the years to come.
