Under the new rule, only women who are permanent residents of Bihar will be eligible to avail the benefits of this reservation.
NEW DELHI: The Bihar government has approved the implementation of a domicile policy for the 35% reservation quota in government jobs earmarked for women. Under the new rule, only women who are permanent residents of Bihar will be eligible to avail the benefits of this reservation.
The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. As per the revised policy, female candidates from outside the state will now be considered under the general category.
The proposal was submitted by the General Administration Department amid growing demands from various organisations advocating for domicile-based preferences in government jobs to ensure greater opportunities for local residents.
In a related move, the Cabinet also approved the formation of a seven-member Youth Commission. This body will focus on issues concerning the state’s youth, including migration, skill development, unemployment, and the overall development of economically disadvantaged meritorious students.
The commission will also address the concerns of migrant workers and students pursuing higher education outside Bihar.
