NEW DELHI: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta kicked off a month-long door-to-door cleanliness campaign from the Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) at Kashmiri Gate, with the goal of improving sanitation and workplace conditions across the national capital.
The initiative will span all districts of Delhi, engaging government officials, civic agencies, and local communities. The campaign will target not just residential and commercial areas, but also government buildings, transport hubs, and public offices.
Leading by example, CM Gupta participated in the drive by sweeping parts of the ISBT premises. She also inspected the facility, expressing serious concern over poor maintenance and deteriorating infrastructure.
“If our officers are working in such conditions, how can they serve the public effectively?” she said. “Water drips from the ceiling onto an officer’s chair, and this is the kind of furniture they are given to work with.”
During her inspection, the Chief Minister voiced dissatisfaction with the unhygienic environment and called for urgent reforms. She emphasized the need for better upkeep of public infrastructure and announced that the city requires a new Secretariat building.
“Delhi needs a new Secretariat. Starting today, we will begin identifying suitable locations so that all departments can function from a centralized space,” she declared.
The campaign will be coordinated with municipal bodies and involve participation from schoolchildren, NGOs, resident welfare associations, and volunteers. CM Gupta urged citizens and officials alike to treat cleanliness as a collective responsibility and help raise the standard of urban hygiene in Delhi.
