Dr. Deepak Mittal assumes charge as Ambassador-Designate of India to the UAE

*NEW DELHI: Dr. Deepak Mittal has assumed charge as the Ambassador-Designate of India to the United Arab Emirates, bringing with him over two decades of distinguished diplomatic service across key international assignments.

A 1998-batch officer of the Indian Foreign Service, Dr. Mittal has served in Indian missions in Egypt, Israel, and Bangladesh. He was previously the Consul General of India in Ho Chi Minh City and most recently served as India’s Ambassador to the State of Qatar.

At the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi, Dr. Mittal has held several significant positions, including leading the division overseeing consular affairs and heading the desk responsible for India’s relations with Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Iran. He has also served in the Prime Minister’s Office during two tenures—first as Director and later as Additional Secretary.

Fluent in Hindi, English, and Arabic, Dr. Mittal is widely regarded for his diplomatic acumen and deep regional expertise. He is married and has a son and a daughter.

Dr. Mittal formally joined the Embassy of India in Abu Dhabi on October 30, 2025.
