EAM Jaishankar meets Chinese Vice-President Han Zheng in Beijing.
NEW DELHI: External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar has emphasised the importance of open exchange of views between India and China in the context of an increasingly complex international landscape.
During his meeting with Chinese Vice-President Han Zheng in Beijing, Dr. Jaishankar underscored that the continued normalisation of bilateral ties could yield outcomes beneficial to both nations. He noted that relations between the two countries have shown steady improvement since the meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping in Kazan last October. The Minister expressed optimism that his current visit would help sustain this positive momentum.
Dr. Jaishankar also welcomed the resumption of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, describing it as a move widely appreciated in India. He reiterated India’s support for a successful Chinese presidency of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).
Separately, the External Affairs Minister met with SCO Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev in Beijing, where they discussed the organisation’s evolving role and ongoing efforts to modernise its functioning.
Dr. Jaishankar is currently on a two-day visit to China and will attend the SCO Foreign Ministers’ meeting in Tianjin.
