Price pressures eased on a month-to-month basis.

NEW DELHI: India’s retail inflation rose slightly in February 2026 on an annual basis, though price pressures eased compared with the previous month, according to data released by the government.

Figures from the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation showed that the year-on-year inflation rate increased by 47 basis points in February, indicating moderate price pressures compared with the same month last year.

However, the ministry said inflation declined on a month-to-month basis, suggesting a slight easing in overall price levels during the period.

Food prices continued to play a key role in shaping the inflation trend. Variations in categories such as vegetables and other food items contributed to movements in the Consumer Price Index.

Inflation data is closely watched by policymakers as it influences interest-rate decisions, economic growth forecasts and household spending patterns.

The latest figures also reflect broader economic factors, including supply conditions, seasonal trends and global commodity prices, which continue to affect price levels.

The ministry said it will continue monitoring price movements across sectors and will release detailed data and analysis to support policy planning and economic assessment.
