Israeli negotiators are participating in the renewed ceasefire talks in Doha.

NEW DELHI: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed optimism that his meeting with US President Donald Trump would help advance efforts toward a ceasefire agreement and the release of hostages held in Gaza. President Trump, echoing this sentiment, predicted that a deal could be reached within the week.

Before departing for Washington, Netanyahu said that Israeli negotiators participating in the renewed ceasefire talks in Doha had been given clear directives to reach an agreement based on conditions previously accepted by Israel.

“I believe my discussion with President Trump can significantly contribute to achieving these outcomes,” Netanyahu said, reaffirming his commitment to securing the release of hostages and eliminating the threat posed by Hamas.

This marks Netanyahu’s third visit to the White House since Trump returned to office nearly six months ago.

Speaking to reporters before leaving New Jersey after a weekend of golf, Trump said, “I think there’s a good chance we’ll have a deal with Hamas this week,” adding that the agreement could result in the release of “quite a few hostages.”

Netanyahu faces mounting domestic pressure to secure a lasting ceasefire and bring the war in Gaza to an end. While some members of his right-wing coalition oppose such a move, others, including Foreign Minister Gideon Saar, have voiced support for a negotiated resolution.
