NEW DELHI: S. Usha has assumed charge as Director (Market Operation), GRID-INDIA. She is a 1989-batch graduate in B.Tech (Electrical Engineering) from Calicut University, Kerala.
Prior to joining the Board of GRID-INDIA, she served as Executive Director, National Load Despatch Centre (NLDC), GRID-INDIA.
Usha brings over 35 years of rich experience in the Indian power sector, having served in premier organizations such as CEA, POWERGRID, and GRID-INDIA in various leadership and technical capacities.
As a key team member, she has made significant contributions to the implementation of Availability Based Tariff (ABT), formulation and evolution of the Indian Electricity Grid Code (IEGC), and the rollout of multiple regulations, rules, and policies governing the power sector.
Her notable contributions include implementation of Open Access, establishment of robust metering, scheduling, accounting and settlement mechanisms, management of Regulatory Pool Accounts, and implementation of Late Payment Surcharge (LPSC) Rules. She has played a pivotal role in ensuring the secure and reliable operation of the National Grid, facilitating the integration of generators, pumped storage plants (PSPs), transmission assets and large-scale renewable energy sources.
Usha successfully led the pan India rollout of the new Web Based Energy Scheduling (WBES) software and was instrumental in issuing various procedures and operational frameworks for smooth implementation of regulations and rules. She has also handled numerous legal and regulatory matters related to the power sector before various courts and forums across India. She joined our Board in January, 2026.
