NEW DELHI: The Union Ministry of Home Affairs appointed Sanjeev Khirwar, a 1994-batch IAS officer of the AGMUT cadre, as the Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), as per an official order.
The appointment was issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and communicated to the office of the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi.
Ashwani Kumar, the outgoing MCD Commissioner and a 1992-batch IAS officer, has been transferred from Delhi to Jammu and Kashmir. Khirwar, an officer of the Arunachal Pradesh–Goa–Mizoram and Union Territories (AGMUT) cadre, was earlier transferred from Delhi to Ladakh in May 2022 following a public controversy related to the Thyagraj Stadium complex.
Khirwar takes charge at a crucial juncture, as the civic body prepares to present its budget before the Municipal Corporation House later this month and continues to address major administrative and financial challenges.
The Commissioner is responsible for overseeing the corporation’s day-to-day functioning, implementing policy decisions, and coordinating with various departments.
