Golcha was serving as the Director General of Prisons in Delhi.
NEW DELHI: Senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Satish Golcha has assumed charge as the new Commissioner of Police, Delhi.
A 1992-batch officer from the AGMUT (Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram, and Union Territories) cadre, Golcha was serving as the Director General of Prisons in Delhi.
Golcha replaces IPS officer SBK Singh, who had been holding additional charge as Delhi Police Commissioner since August 1, 2025, alongside his duties as Director General of Home Guards, following the retirement of Sanjay Arora on July 31.
Since May 2024, Golcha has headed Delhi’s prison system — including Tihar, Mandoli, and Rohini jails — initially on an interim basis to address growing concerns over jail violence and gang activity. His appointment was later formalized.
Over his career, Golcha has held several key positions. He served as Director General of Police (DGP) of Arunachal Pradesh between February 2022 and June 2023 and has earlier held roles such as Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Joint Commissioner, and Special Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) in Delhi.
He played a prominent role in restoring calm during the 2020 North-East Delhi riots while serving as Special Commissioner of Police (Law and Order). He has also led the Intelligence Division of the Delhi Police as Special CP (Intelligence).
