Southwest Monsoon covers entire country ahead of schedule

IMD has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall over Northwest, Central, East, and Northeast India in the coming week.

NEW DELHI: The Southwest Monsoon has covered the entire country June 29, nine days ahead of its usual onset date of July 8, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). With its advance into the remaining parts of Rajasthan, West Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Delhi, a strong and early monsoon season is now underway.

The IMD has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall over large parts of Northwest, Central, East, and Northeast India in the coming week.

Jharkhand may see extremely heavy rain on June 29–30, with Odisha experiencing similar conditions on June 29.

Uttarakhand is likely to receive significant rain from June 29 to July 3, while Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, and Haryana will be affected on June 29–30.

Gangetic West Bengal will see heavy rain on June 29, while Odisha is expected to receive more rain from June 30 to July 5. Another intense spell is likely in Jharkhand on July 1.

In Uttar Pradesh, heavy rain is forecast for Western UP from June 29 to July 2, and for Eastern UP on June 30 and July 1.

Madhya Pradesh and Bihar will see rainfall from June 30 to July 2, and Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, and East Rajasthan will be impacted, with East Rajasthan likely to receive intense rain on July 4–5.

The Northeast, including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura, is expected to experience heavy rain between July 2–5.

Rainfall will also continue in Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra's ghat areas, and Gujarat throughout the week.
