NEW DELHI: The Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) has recommended Vamsi Rama Mohan Burra for appointment as the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID), India’s largest power transmission utility and a Maharatna Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Power.
The decision came after final interviews were conducted by the PESB on December 13, 2025, marking the culmination of a competitive selection process involving senior executives from Power Grid and other public sector firms.
Currently serving as Director (Projects) at POWERGRID, Burra emerged as the preferred candidate among nine applicants, which included other key leaders from within the corporation.
In his existing role, Burra has overseen project execution and strategic infrastructure development, playing a pivotal part in advancing Power Grid’s nationwide transmission network. His responsibilities have spanned critical project management functions vital to timely commissioning and operational readiness.
Burra brings over three decades of experience in the power and telecom sectors, having previously served as CEO & Director of Power Grid Teleservices Limited and contributing extensively to project implementation, procurement management, and regulatory strategy.
POWERGRID plays a central role in sustaining India’s electricity infrastructure, operating an expansive transmission network that forms the backbone of the country’s electric power delivery system. The CMD position is crucial as the company navigates modernization efforts, system expansions, and integration of clean energy sources.
The PESB’s recommendation will now be forwarded to the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) for final approval and formal appointment. Once confirmed, Burra will succeed the incumbent CMD and lead the corporation through its next phase of growth and infrastructure strengthening.
