NEW DELHI: Yumnam Khemchand Singh was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Manipur during a ceremony at Lok Bhavan in Imphal. A senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Singh took charge following the lifting of President’s Rule, which had been imposed in February 2025.
Several ministers were also administered the oath of office. Nemcha Kipgen made history as the first Deputy Chief Minister from the Kuki community, while Losii Dikho of the Naga People’s Front was appointed as the other Deputy Chief Minister. The swearing-in ceremony was attended by BJP legislators, senior officials, and leaders from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Manipur.
In a social media message, Singh expressed confidence in the new government, saying that peace and development would be its guiding principles. He also acknowledged the significant challenges ahead in realising the vision of a developed Bharat and a developed Manipur.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also extended congratulations to Yumnam Khemchand Singh on taking oath as the Chief Minister of Manipur.
The Prime Minister also conveyed his best wishes to Nemcha Kipgen and Losii Dikho on assuming office as the Deputy Chief Ministers of the state. He further congratulated Konthoujam Govindas Singh and Khuraijam Loken Singh on being sworn in as Ministers in the Manipur Government.
Expressing confidence in the new leadership, Narendra Modi stated that they will work diligently towards furthering development and prosperity for the sisters and brothers of Manipur.
